| A Doorway to Blessing | | Print | |

I have come to understand that God's commands are not given to control and hinder, but rather they are intended to protect and position me to receive His blessings. His instructions are not vain, nor are they selfish. His commands were not given as He considered the ramifications that they would have on His existence. Rather, they were offered as He considered how best to bless me, His child.
But it is not the guidelines alone that ensure God's rich rewards, for I have been able to quote God's ideals since I was getting gold stars in VBS every summer, yet there were still times when I was not experiencing abundant life. Instead, it is my response to God's guidelines that count. It is my obedience that opens the door for Him to bless me.
Although obedience does not come naturally, it is something that I strive to develop in my life. Submission is difficult for many reasons. It goes against my desire to be in control and call the shots. Occasionally, I don't see the logic in the direction that He is giving, and that provides arguments to support my will vs. God's. At other times, I struggle to surrender because I am very satisfied with the position of my life in its current state.
